The game is designed to be fun and educational at the same time. I conducted market research among young Czechs, in the 18-40 age group, to identify the target group and interests of potential players. Based on the results of the survey, I designed questions and answers for the game, which focus on different cultures, including the Czech one. The results of the survey pleasantly surprised me and I found out that people in the Czech Republic are interested in this kind of board quiz game.
After researching, I gradually started to create and design the game board and visuals for the game. The most difficult part of creating the game was to come up with quiz questions in a way that would interest the players, and not only that, but it would also teach them as much as possible how different nations behave in different situations, what interesting customs they have, what is not allowed or even directly prohibited in their nation, what sights can be visited in a given country of the respective culture, what interesting the nature provides in the given region and in the given country. I myself learned a lot about different cultures and nations while researching and creating quiz questions, and I must say that some of the facts I learned during the creation process were really very interesting.
After completing the quiz questions, it was finally time to test the game. I tested the board quiz game in game design classes. During testing, I discovered a few flaws that I tried to remove and balance during the next game play. After playing a few games, the mechanics were already balanced and ready. After that, I immediately wrote down all the changes and edited them in the rules of the game.
While testing this game, I found that just as the game had an effect on me, it had an effect on other players who had a lot of fun while playing the game and praised the fact that they had learned many interesting facts about the different cultures that live here with us. The problem is that we do not know much about these cultures, and this then results in us not being able to communicate with them. Foreigners then are not able to integrate into our society and communities where individual nationalities are concentrated are created, and this may lead to conflicts in case of any crisis.
I believe that the game "Bridges" can contribute to better mutual knowledge and communication, and thus to the building of a harmonious society. Future expansion of the game into digital form could further strengthen the reach of this idea and contribute to its wider influence. Actually, I would say that the board quiz game is just a beginning, and the idea would have a really massive impact only through the digital form, when people could play the game all over the world and learn something new about their neighbors, friends or other people and maybe get to know them through this game.
I therefore hope that this game of mine could be a small contribution to the elimination of national differences and the smooth integration of foreigners among the Czechs, because Czechs will also be willing to communicate more with these foreigners, and this communication will also contribute to the enrichment of our culture and education. I believe that thanks to this game it will be possible to overcome many different features of nations and cultures and turn them into a positive perception and connection with each other. A lot of people have unnecessary prejudices against other people from other countries and this is often due to ignorance of the culture and customs of that country. The game "Bridges" is meant to help you get to know each other and help you overcome these prejudices and respect each other.
Overall, this work is an original and interesting project that responds to the current needs of society and offers a concrete tool for promoting intercultural understanding. I hope you enjoy Bridges, the game that connects.
